Meet Your Next Digital Media Leader

Alyssa C. Wilson is an award-winning digital journalist and media leader. Born and raised in New Jersey, she graduated from Monmouth University in 2018 with a B.A. in Communication with a double concentration in Television and Journalism. After graduating, Alyssa was recruited by Cox Media Group to be a Digital Video Optimization Specialist for Boston 25 News in Dedham, Massachusetts.

While at Boston 25, Alyssa worked diligently and improved the station's social metrics. With her social media strategy, the station's Instagram following grew from about 92,000 to 177,000 in less than two years. Additionally, she helped her team win a national Edward R. Murrow award for Excellence in Social Media and a Soundbite Award from the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association with their coverage of the Merrimack Valley gas explosions.

After Alyssa's duties expanded to digital content production in addition to her video roles, she assisted sister stations and corporate initiatives. Her leadership led her to create Animoto and Canva training documents for WPIX and she served as a liaison for the station on corporate DEI initiatives. As a diversity and social justice champion, Alyssa was not afraid to call out racial bias in reporting and help creative services reach diverse audiences.

In Feb. 2021, Alyssa began her role as a Digital Content Producer for the Black News Channel and quickly became a key member of the team. About six months into the role, she was designated as the leader of content, becoming the main producer who selected content pillars and themes for writers. In addition to her leadership roles, Alyssa wrote original content, mentored young writers and journalists on the team and served as the digital manager in the absence of her supervisor.

Alyssa's work has been influential in helping the Black News Channel, a media startup, reach its goals quickly. She contributed to rising YouTube metrics that include a 3000% increase in subscribers, 22.3 million views and six-figure revenue in just eight months. Both her aggregated news and original content led to a 600% increase in monthly website users and her SEO proficiency led to great results.

While at BNC, Alyssa completed her M.S. in Communication with a dual concentration in Advertising and Media Management from Syracuse University. With a long-term goal to conduct research and become a journalism professor, Alyssa enrolled at Regent University to begin her Ph.D. studies. Following her departure from BNC, Alyssa went on to FOX 29 in Philadelphia, where she serves as a morning Digital Content Creator.

Alyssa is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. In 2021, she was inducted into the Leadership Academy Mentoring Program's inaugural class. This opportunity has given her numerous mentors who are general managers of various newsrooms across the country. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
